Thanksgiving is, admittedly, my favorite holiday of the year. I usually host at my house. I love to cook and bake and I always love getting the family together with good food, good drinks, and good music. However, this year certainly brings challenges unique to any other year. If you told me in March that I\u2019d be cooking Thanksgiving dinners and packing them up in take-out containers for family, I\u2019d have thought you were crazy. But, alas, here we are. \u00a0While the family won\u2019t be around the same table, we are still thankful for plenty. And since I\u2019m still cooking Thanksgiving dinner, I\u2019m still going to need some Thanksgiving music to cook to!<\/p>\n<p>My household used to play Arlo Guthrie\u2019s <em>Alice\u2019s Restaurant<\/em> (all eighteen and a half minutes) a few times on Thanksgiving Day, but other Thanksgiving-specific music isn\u2019t easy to come by. \u00a0To make things easier for you as you run into this problem, here are eight songs for you to add to your Thanksgiving Day playlist that are rooted in the themes of gratitude, family, and thankfulness.<\/p>\n<h3>Be Kind \u2014 Liv Wilinski<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"BE KIND - Liv Wilinski | The Jam Cats Music | Kids Songs | Nursery Rhymes | Music Classes\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T3r1mUxci8U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A Friends of Jam Cats original! Liv\u2019s sweet voice and delicate ukulele make this a loveable piece for kids and adults alike. The theme of the song reminds us to simply \u201cbe kind to everyone you meet.\u201d In a year like this, we\u2019ve all gone through our own battles. This song reminds us to be kind to all as we make it through this year.<\/p>\n<h3>Home \u2014 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Edward Sharpe &amp; The Magnetic Zeros - Home (Official Video)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DHEOF_rcND8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The music video helps, but this song\u2019s nostalgic feel of this song is a feel-good on its own. In a year where we have been in our homes more than ever, the line \u201cHome is wherever I\u2019m with you\u201d speaks to us more directly. Our houses are the four walls we\u2019ve been in since March. Home is the family inside with us. (*disclaimer, there is some mild profanity at 3:25).<\/p>\n<h3>Mashed Potato USA \u2014 James Brown<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mashed Potatoes U.S.A.\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NkX0sjct19A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>OK, so obviously not a family or grateful concept, but some would argue it\u2019s the best part of the Thanksgiving plate. Though from Sesame Street, everyone will be walking around the house singing \u201coh oh\u2026oh oh\u2026Thankful, yes I am thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Kind and Generous \u2014 Natalie Merchant<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Natalie Merchant - Kind and Generous\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uAwyIad93-c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Natalie Merchant\u2019s voice is a vivid 90s memory for me. I can remember pre-teen me sitting on my couch watching this video in VH1. The song is an expression of thanks and gratitude, the perfect Thanksgiving theme.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0It Won\u2019t Be Like This For Long \u2014 Darius Rucker<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Darius Rucker - It Won&#039;t Be Like This For Long (Official Music Video)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y5zCaRaJ-kE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With a title that may never be more true than 2020, it reminds us that this will pass. Personally, I can say that this year has been the year I\u2019ve seen my best friends the least but leaned on them the most. We found ways to support each other without being present, and I am forever thankful for those friendships.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There you have it, folks!
