It’s pumpkin time! There’s pumpkin everywhere. Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soap, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin Oreos, pumpkin cinnamon rolls. Is there anything that isn’t pumpkin these days? Staying true to the theme, here are five great pumpkin songs for you and your children to enjoy together this month!

Turn into a jack-o-lantern just like THAT.”
I like to add a craft and some motions to this song. For “round and fat,” simply motion your hands to shape a round and fat pumpkin. At “just like THAT,” snap!
Another activity you can do is to make paper jack-o-lanterns. I printed mine, but you can certainly make one with construction paper. One side is a plain pumpkin and the other is a Jack-o-Lantern. Flip to the Jack-o-Lantern at “just like THAT!”

The movements in this song make this one fun for little ones.
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. Use one arm as a gate and hold an open hand (one finger for each pumpkin) to sit on forearm gate.
The first one said ‘Oh my, it’s getting late!’ Hands on cheeks in surprise.
The second one said, ‘There are witches in the air!’ Hands above head like a witch hat, swaying side to side.
The third one said, ‘But we don’t care.’ Thumbs point to self and shake head.
The fourth one said ‘Let’s run and run and run!’ Move arms as though running.
The fifth one said ‘I’m ready for some fun!’ Thumbs up!
Then ‘woooo’ went the wind and OUT went the lights. Swoop hands side to side like wind, clap for “OUT.”
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight. Roll hands in front of body to represent the pumpkins rolling down the hill.

OK, I’ll admit it. I have no activity for this, it’s just a fun little song that we have been singing here for years. You could use your pumpkin craft again and put eyes or turn the smile at the times of the song, but this song is a bit quicker paced and short (just over a minute long). It’s a fun one for free dance and singing.

Mr. Pumpkin is to the tune of Where is Thumbkin? but uses less fine motor in the motion. I like to use body percussion here to tap the beat in parts of this song.

I use crafts for this one! We build our own little pumpkin faces and build the faces during the song. Still, everyone’s favorite part seems to be when the pumpkin whispers “Happy Halloween!” at the end.
